What does it cost to take part?

The earlier you register, the cheaper it is! That way you set your own price, we know where we stand and we can prepare everything well in time. We do want to offer the option of registering later, but a different price applies then.

Up to and including 15 October 2026 you can register if you sign up a volunteer. That is hugely appreciated! In return you get the lowest entry fee of the year, and a pair of finisher socks waiting for you once you cross the line.

All amounts exclude administration fees and the NTB licence. You can add a day licence while registering; an annual licence you arrange directly with the Dutch triathlon federation at triathlonbond.nl.

Do I need a race licence?

You need a licence to take part in the Gelreman. Among other things, it tells us that you are insured.

You get a licence with a membership of the Dutch triathlon federation (NTB).

You may also hold a licence from another federation.
Foreign triathlon licences are valid for all Gelreman distances.
A KNWU (cycling), athletics or KNZB (swimming) licence is only valid up to and including the Quarter Distance.

If you show one of these licences and meet the conditions above, you do not need a day licence.

If you do not have a licence, you buy a day licence while registering. We arrange everything else with the NTB behind the scenes.

If you do have a licence, there is nothing extra to pay; you enter your licence number when you register. And you bring your licence to the race.

You can join the NTB at any time at triathlonbond.nl. The longer the distance and the more races you do, the more worthwhile NTB membership becomes compared to buying separate day licences.

The NTB offers two types of membership: club membership and individual membership. See triathlonbond.nl for more information.

NTB membership runs per calendar year. Would you like to join and already benefit from it at the Gelreman 2027? Then state when registering that you are a member and sign up with the NTB from 1 January 2027. You can add your licence number afterwards via your dashboard.

What is included in my registration?

Included with every distance: a great day out for you and your spectators, a finisher shirt, a finisher medal and, after a day of racing, a good massage and a meal.

Can I transfer my entry?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can transfer your race number via your dashboard on Njuko.com. If that does not work, send an email to info@gelreman.nl. A transfer costs €15 in administration fees. Transfers are possible up to and including 15 July.

Question 5

Is this event right for me if I've never done a triathlon?

Absolutely. The Quarter Distance is the entry distance: 1 km swim, 45 km bike and 10 km run. The Half Distance and De Eigenwijze are popular with athletes stepping up from shorter distances. As long as you can swim, cycle and run and have a base level of fitness, you are welcome. The Full Distance is within reach too: every year first-timers finish the full distance, with 6 to 9 months of focused preparation.

What is the difference between the distances?

Full Distance is the classic 226 km: 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km run. Half Distance is exactly half: 1.9 km, 90 km and 21.1 km. Quarter Distance is the entry distance: 1 km, 45 km and 10 km. De Eigenwijze swims and runs the half distance but rides 135 km instead of 90. Full Distance Team is the full distance shared across a team. All distances start from the same location with the same organisation and atmosphere.

Can I take part as a team or as a relay?

Yes. With Full Distance Team you take on the full distance as a team: you divide the swim, the bike and the run between you. The other distances are completed individually.

When does registration close?

Accepted Answer

Registration stays open until the places are full. Based on previous editions we advise registering early: in 2026, 847 triathletes crossed the finish line. Up-to-date information about closing dates is communicated via the newsletter.

Question 9

What happens in bad weather?

Accepted Answer

The race goes ahead as long as it is safe for participants, volunteers and everyone else involved. In case of thunderstorms or extreme heat, for example, we may have to make changes, such as cancelling the swim or shortening distances. In the most extreme case we may have to cancel the race. Let's hope it never comes to that.

If the event is cancelled or parts of it are changed due to force majeure (such as weather conditions, emergencies, government measures or other circumstances beyond the organisation's control), you are not entitled to a refund of the entry fee or compensation for costs incurred, because in these situations too most of the costs have already been made. All participants will of course be informed in good time.

How does payment work after registering?

You pay when you register. Registration is currently moving to a new system; as soon as it opens, the registration page will explain exactly how payment works. You can always withdraw; the earlier you do, the more you get back according to the cancellation scale in the rules. Even after 8 August you still get €10 back.

Question 11

I haven't received a confirmation email. What should I do?

When is bike check-in?

Bike check-in is on Saturday only.

What is the address of the venue?

Rijkerswoerdsestraat 4, 6661 NT Elst. Car park P1 is right next to the event site (free, closed between 08:45 and 16:30). P2 and P3 are within walking distance.

Can I park my camper on the site?

Accepted Answer

Campers are welcome. Please take up as little space as possible when parking. There is a separate entrance because of height restrictions. Contact info@gelreman.nl for the details.

Question 15

Is a wetsuit compulsory?

Accepted Answer

In line with NTB rules. If the water temperature is above 24.5°C a wetsuit is NOT permitted. We announce as early as possible whether wetsuits are allowed. If it is a close call, the decision will be made no later than 05:30 on race day.

Do participants receive a swim cap?

Yes, all participants receive a Gelreman-branded swim cap along with their race number and registration.

Where do I state my nutrition preference?

There are two coaching stations along the bike course. The exact locations are shown on the Google Maps link on the website.

Is there a course recon?

Accepted Answer

Yes, on Saturday 26 June 2027. Taking part costs € 12.50. You sign up with your race entry, or later via your Njuko account. Details are communicated by email to all registered participants.

Question 19

Is the bike route traffic-free?

Accepted Answer

The route has little traffic. The dike and a few other roads are officially closed to motor vehicles, except for residents. Because the route is not traffic-free, normal traffic rules apply.

Are showers available?

Yes, showers are available after the finish. Bring your own towel and toiletries.

Question 21

When is the water temperature measured?

Accepted Answer

On the Friday before the event. If the temperature is close to the 24.5°C threshold, a further measurement is taken on Saturday morning.

Question 22

What time does the car park open?

Accepted Answer

We have three car parks: P1 right next to the event site, P2 about 500 metres away and P3 about 1.3 km away. They are free and freely accessible. P1 is closed between 08:45 and 16:30.
